L’AAF soutient le mouvement Stand Up for Science

Le conseil d’admi­nis­tra­tion de l’AAF prend connais­sance avec grande inquié­tude des mesu­res prises par la nou­velle admi­nis­tra­tion amé­ri­caine concer­nant les ar-chives et les archi­vis­tes, dont la presse se fait l’écho. Il cons­tate une poli­ti­sa­tion et une ins­tru­men­ta­li­sa­tion des choix de conser­va­tion qui vont à l’encontre du statut des archi­ves en tant que bien commun à l’ensem­ble d’une société. Il fait sien­nes en par­ti­cu­lier les préoc­cu­pa­tions de nos col­lè­gues de l’ensei­gne­ment supé­rieur et de la recher­che, ras­sem­blés au sein de la sec­tion des Archivistes des Universités, des Rectorats, des Organismes de Recherche et mou­ve­ments Étudiants (AURORE).

Celle-ci s’asso­cie au mou­ve­ment Stand Up For Science initié depuis plu­sieurs semai­nes par la com­mu­nauté scien­ti­fi­que inter­na­tio­nale et plus spé­ci­fi­que­ment états-unienne. Les posi­tions et les actes pris par le gou­ver­ne­ment de Donald Trump remet­tent en cause les fon­de­ments de la Recherche publi­que et ébranlent les prin­ci­pes mêmes de la Démocratie.

Le mou­ve­ment Stand Up For Science nous rap­pelle la posi­tion fra­gile des mino­ri­tés et la remise en cause quasi sys­té­ma­ti­que de leur légi­ti­mité. Des consi­gnes, plus nom­breu­ses chaque jour, invi­tent les cher­cheurs à reti­rer cer­tains termes de leurs deman­des de finan­ce­ments : femmes, mar­gi­na­lité, chan­ge­ment cli­ma­ti­que, LGBTQ+… pour qu’ils puis­sent avoir une chance de finan­cer leurs recher­ches. Ce n’est pas ainsi que fonc­tionne la recher­che et ce n’est cer­tai­ne­ment pas un chemin que doit emprun­ter la recher­che fran­çaise.

Face à un monde incer­tain, tourné vers l’immé­dia­teté, les fake news, la post-vérité et l’infir­ma­tion des sour­ces scien­ti­fi­ques, il est de la res­pon­sa­bi­lité de la sec­tion AURORE et de l’AAF toute entière de rap­pe­ler l’impor­tance de la recher­che et d’appor­ter son sou­tien à tous les pro­fes­sion­nels de la recher­che œuvrant aux Etats-Unis et à ceux qui les sou­tien­nent (records mana­ger, data scien­tist, data libra­rians, libra­rians, archi­vists…).

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

The AAF board of direc­tors is deeply concer­ned to learn of the mea­su­res taken by the new ame­ri­can admi­nis­tra­tion concer­ning archi­ves and archi­vists, as repor­ted in the press. It notes a poli­ti­ci­za­tion and ins­tru­men­ta­li­za­tion of conser­va­tion choi­ces that run coun­ter to the status of archi­ves as a common good for society as a whole. In par­ti­cu­lar, we endorse the concerns of our col­lea­gues in post-secondary edu­ca­tion and research, who have come toge­ther in our sec­tion of uni­ver­sity and research archi­vists (AURORE).

AURORE joins the Stand Up For Science move­ment ini­tia­ted seve­ral weeks ago by the inter­na­tio­nal scien­ti­fic com­mu­nity, and more spe­ci­fi­cally in the United States. The posi­tions and actions taken by Donald Trump’s admi­nis­tra­tion call into ques­tion the foun­da­tions of public research, and under­mine the very prin­ci­ples of demo­cracy.

The Stand Up For Science move­ment reminds us of the fra­gile posi­tion of mino­ri­ties and the almost sys­te­ma­tic ques­tio­ning of their legi­ti­macy. More and more ins­truc­tions are issued every day, asking resear­chers to remove cer­tain terms from their fun­ding appli­ca­tions : women, mar­gi­na­lity, cli­mate change, LGBTQ+... so that they can have a chance of fun­ding their research. This is not the way research works, and it’s cer­tainly not the way we should be going.

Faced with an uncer­tain world focu­sed on imme­diacy, fake news, post-truths and the inva­li­da­tion of scien­ti­fic sour­ces, it is the res­pon­si­bi­lity of the AURORE sec­tion and the AAF as a whole to recall the impor­tance of research and to sup­port all research pro­fes­sio­nals wor­king in the United States and those who sup­port them (records mana­ger, data scien­tist, data libra­rians, libra­rians, archi­vists...).
